Emma Young studied a Bachelor of Visual Arts at the University of South Australia, specialising in glass under the supervision of Gabriella Bisetto. Further pursuing her interest in blown glass techniques, Emma has participated in various master classes taken by internationally renowned glass artists. Her adventures in world travel invoked an appreciation for her home state and her early career products reflect these values.
Local talent Emma has come to JamFactory to further establish her practice as a glass designer/maker. Her uniquely South Australian approach is inspired by local icons and childhood memories, and is clearly evident in the bright, bold works she creates, cleverly utilising both hot sculpting and blown techniques.
“With my primarily utilitarian glass work, I aim to convey a sense of familiarity and innocence to achieve connection with my audience. Translating my pride and affection for experiences throughout my upbringing in Adelaide, I hope to share treasured memories and expose my vulnerability to the viewer. I enjoy using vivid colours in forms that serve both function and aesthetic.”
